How Can I Stay Connected To My Loved One?
Say Their Name.
A Lot.
Say it to strangers. Say it in the car.
Say it to yourself.
Don’t let silence erase them.
Make a Grief File.
Not a scrapbook.
A raw, unfiltered dumping ground for memories, dreams, guilt, weird signs, unfinished jokes.
Tell the Whole Truth.
Not the polished, funeral version.
Tell the complicated, messy, painful, human version.
Build a Weird Altar.
Not the Pinterest kind.
A shot glass, a keychain, a single sock.
A corner where their energy still lives.
Talk to Them.
Out Loud.
In your car. On your walks.
Hit record. Make it a voice memo.
Save them. Or don’t. This is just for you.
Live What They Couldn’t.
Write the book. Move across the country.
Be bold in the way they never got to be.
Make Something That Hurts.
Paint. Sing. Plant. Write. Joke.
Let it be messy, unfinished, or too much.
Break the Rules. In Their Name.
Say no. Skip the holiday.
Start over. Change your mind.
Grief makes its own rituals.
Get Curious About the Haunting.
Where do you feel them?
Your chest? Your gut? That twitch in your throat before you cry?
Notice that. Get curious about it. Build a relationship with it.
Grief isn’t something we get over.
It’s something we learn to live with.
This is how we carry.
Grief doesn’t come with a map, but you don’t have to walk through it alone. I’m Laura Walton, LMFT and Founder of Grief on Purpose. I've created courses, resource bundles, and journals designed to give you tools, companionship, and a place to begin again. Whether you’re navigating the death of someone you love, carrying the weight of trauma, or simply looking for a gentle guide back to yourself, I'd be honored to help you. I am currently booking clients for both clinical and non-clinical modalities.
